An average audience of 8 million viewers watched the first live show of Strictly Come Dancing last night.
Yesterday's opening episode aired in its unusual Friday time slot, with the first six of fourteen celebrities dancing.
An average of 8 million viewers were tuned in between 9PM and 10PM, peaking with 8.6 million viewers throughout the hour.
The figure is up slightly on last year's show, putting on a good course to beat The X Factor in tonight's Saturday show, which often does better.
This evening will see the remaining eight celebrities perform when the lives show continue at the usual time of 6:30PM on BBC One.
The X Factor 2012 will follow straight after over on ITV1, with the final 12 contestants also making their debut live performance.
