Celebrity Big Brother bosses fear that Sam Robertson could quit the show before it even begins.
The former Corrie star was previously lined up for the summer series but pulled out at the last minute.
The actor has now been given a "second chance" by producers, but they fear that the same thing could happen again head of Thursday's launch show.
A source claimed today: “Just hours before he was due to enter the house Sam said he couldn’t face it.
"He had gone into hiding before the series started and just couldn’t cope being locked up and away from the outside world.
“Other guests in the hotel where he was staying said he was going crazy not being able to do normal things like call his family.”
According to the Daily Star Sunday, Sam has "convinced" producers to let him take part again for the new series.
An insider told the tabloid: “He’s convinced them he won’t prove to be a let-down this time around."
They added: “Even if he makes it into the house, he’s unlikely to find it easy coping with the pressures. There will be fireworks.”
