Big Brother 2017 start date could be delayed due to General Election

Celebrity Big Brother 2017

The start date for Big Brother 2017 could face being pushed back after news of the General Election.

A surprise snap election was confirmed for Thursday June 8 yesterday, potentially in the week in which the new series of BBUk would've launched.

Although Channel 5 has yet to confirm the start of this year's Big Brother, of the five summer series to air on Channel 5 so far, four have launched at the same point with last year's run beginning on June 7.

As it happens, the only series not to kick off in June was also delayed by the previous General Election in 2015.

The Timebomb run had been due to begin at the start of May but was pushed back a couple of weeks due to the May 7 election.

As yet Channel 5 hasn't confirmed much about this summer's BBUK although a few titbits have been leaked in recent weeks, including a major revamp of the house.

Bit On The Side's Rylan Clark spilled: “I was there not long ago and the house is SO different. When we did the second house last year, that was a massive change for us, but I’m totally just disregarding that for the moment because what we’ve done in the main house is absolutely unbelievable. It’s unreal."

He also spoke of a rumoured 'pairs' twist to the format but would only say: “I can say that we were looking for pairs but I can’t say any more than that.

"Whether that means there’s only going to be pairs, or there’s going to be singles, I’ve got no idea. I mean I have, but I’m not telling you.”
