Russell Brand wants to judge Strictly Come Dancing after Noel Fielding joined the Great British Bake Off.
Channel 4 surprised everyone yesterday when they confirmed details about their version of the Bake Off after poaching the show from BBC One.
Restaurateur, food writer and novelist Prue Leith will be replacing Mary Berry alongside Paul Hollywood as judges while Sandi Toksvig OBE and Noel Fielding will host the series.
The rather unexpected choice of Noel in particular sent GBBO trending for most of the day, and prompted a plea from his pal Russell.
"Right. If @noelfielding11 can do Bake Off I'm replacing Len on Strictly," the comedian quipped as the BBC series searches for its own star.
Noel was quick to give his backing, writing online: "Representing goths in the mainstream x x x."
Speaking yesterday about his appointment to Bake Off co-host, Noel said: “GBBO is one of my favourite shows. I’ve always loved brightly coloured cakes and Sandi Toksvig so this is a dream come true for me! It’s basically the double “.
Sandi Toksvig OBE said: “It is an extraordinary honour to part of this national treasure of a show. Noel Fielding is one of the nicest guys in show business.
"The first time I met him I felt like I had met a rather wayward cousin whose take on the world made me laugh. The only down side is that he has much better dress sense that I do.
"I spend my daytimes on Channel 4 already so it will be a treat to be there in the evenings. I am so delighted to be working with Love Productions and Channel 4 on this best of British show.”
Bake Off will air on Channel 4 later this year.
