Love Island 2017: Montana Brown and Alex Beattie confirm split

Love Island: Alex and Montana

The first of Love Island 2017's official couples have split.

Montana Brown and Alex Beattie, who had become boyfriend and girlfriend in the villa, were reportedly to have parted ways less than a week after the final.

The couple just missed out on the last night, evicted from the show last Sunday evening 24 hours before the final.

Confirming the split on Twitter, Montana wrote: "Alex and I have decided to split. Making our relationship work on the outside has been hard.

"He hasn't been the same since coming out of the villa. Despite this we are still close and I will always support him."

Alex added: "Me and Montana met yesterday and have decided that it's best to call it a day with our relationship with each other. It's been very hard on the outside to make us work how we desired.

"I still have strong feelings towards her and will be remaining close friends and supporting her throughout."

Speaking following the final, Montana confessed she didn't enter Love Island 2017 to find love.

Making an appearance on ITV's Loose Women, Montana spoke about her reasons for signing up and revealed: "I just thought it would be a really good platform for me to do what I want to do.

"I don't know what that is yet, but I just thought it would open some doors and maybe some opportunities as well."

She added: "To be in the public eye, I feel like it gives you a great platform to influence the public in a good way."

According to The Sun newspaper, Montana has already signed a big deal with a top talent agency to launch her career.

A source told the tabloid: "Unlike many of the other Love Island contestants Montana is determined to keep the projects she chooses classy.

"She wants to forge a glowing telly presenting to career so turned down offers from reality TV agents and followed the stars."

It certainly makes a change from all the nightclub appearances....

Love Island will return in 2018 on ITV2 for its fourth series.
