Blind singer Andrea Begley is one of the standout auditions on this year’s new series of The Voice UK.
26-year-old Andrea will be going in front of (the backs of) the coaches when the show returns Saturday night on BBC One.
Andrea, who suffers from glaucoma, has lost 90 percent of her vision and needs help getting onto the stage.
Speaking before her audition, she tells co-host Reggie Yates: “Music really became my get out and it was a natural progression really.
“When I sing it just takes me to somewhere else, somewhere that’s totally cut off from reality.”
Andrea adds: “It’s something I can just automatically do without any assistance or help and I think that’s why it may be for me.
“This is the biggest challenge I’ve ever put myself too. I’m hopeful that the blind auditions will put me on a level playing field with the other artists.”
Stepping out onto the stage in silence, Andrea goes on to perform Arms of an Angel, but is forced to admit to the panel: “I’m not entirely sure whether anyone turned round.”
Andrea’s audition will air on Saturday night when The Voice returns on BBC One from 7PM.
