The Voice 2013 star Nate James has told how Amy Winehouse inspired him to sing.
The 33-year-old was seen trying to make a comeback on the show last night, joining Team Jessie after impressing with Seal's Crazy.
"I've got as far as I can go doing what I do my way, so now I'm going to sing for some of the biggest names in the industry and hope I get taken under their wings," he explained on the show.
"It's not about fame, it's not about fortune, it's about making music. I've had some time off and I'm ready to work even harder."
Former Mobo nominee Nate was close to Amy before her sudden death back in 2011, and said that the late singer had inspired him.
Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, he explained: “Amy was a delight to be around, even during the hard times. We were best friends.
“She was so passionate about music – we used to sit in my apartment and drink Jack Daniels together while writing songs. We’d jam and cook food.
“We were really close so it was very inspiring to see someone you love dearly succeed.”
He continued: "The fact that she was on the way to repairing herself when she passed away made it worse.
“But I try to focus on the positive.”
If, like us, you're getting déjà vu after Tyler James on last year's show, you won't be shocked to hear that Nate is also best pals with last series' Voice runner up.
Revealing that Tyler was backing him to win, Nate said: “Me, Tyler and Amy were the Three Musketeers, going out and about and having fun in London."
