The Voice UK 2017 to air knockout rounds LIVE in a new twist

The Voice

The Voice UK on ITV will see the knockout rounds aired live for the first time in 2017.

Host Emma Willis let slip the latest twist to the show on its new home.

The knockout rounds are where the coaches decide on their finalists for the live shows.

The contestants in each team stand on stage together, stepping forward one by one to sing for 90 seconds.

Their coach will then pick three (at least based on past years) to go through to the live finals.

“The knockouts are live… Should I be saying this? I don’t know if I should," Emma spilled at this week's press launch. “It will be very immediate, when it’s pre-recorded, they edit the show and put it out.

“This time it will be live so everything will be seen.”

The switch up to the knockouts is the latest change made by ITV to the series.

On the coaching line up, ITV have undone the BBC's controversial work to bring back Sir Tom Jones to the show alongside Will.i.am and two new names: American singer Jennifer Hudson and British rocker Gavin Rossdale, lead singer of Bush.

There's also a brand new look set and the blind auditions have an extra twist this year.

Previously once an audition was over, all the chairs turned so the coaches who didn't hit the buzzer still saw acts and offered them advice or reasons why they hadn't spun.

But now if no coaches press their buzzer they will NOT get to speak or even see the act who auditioned.

Another change is in the prize: The winner of The Voice UK 2017 will scoop a life changing record contract with music giants Polydor Records. The label is home to global music stars Take That and Ellie Goulding, as well as The 1975 and Years & Years.

But will any of the tweaks make for a better show?

The Voice UK 2017 continues Saturday nights on ITV.
