James Arthur has been crowned winner of The X Factor 2012 in a close fought final.
With Christopher Maloney finishing in third place on last night’s XFactor 2012 results, it’s left James Arthur and Jahmene Douglas to go head to head on tonight’s final.
The pair kicked things off by reprising their favourite performances from the live shows, with Jahmene singing Robbie Williams hit Angels and James Arthur performing Let’s Get It On again by Marvin Gaye.
Then the duo both performed their potential winner’s songs, Let It Be by the Beatles for Jahmene and Impossible by Shontelle for James.
Over 3 million people voted in the final, with Dermot O’Leary pausing for a good 15 seconds before eventually revealing the result.
“Thank you, thank you so much,” James said after the result. “Wow. I don’t know what to say.”
Runner up Jahmene added: “It’s a blessing to just be on stage with this talent [James].”
James makes history by becoming the first act to in the show after being in the bottom two earlier in the series.
His winner’s single, Impossible, will be out to buy tomorrow and download from midnight, with all profits going to charity.
Both of the boys were mentored by Nicole Scherzinger, who joined the show’s panel this year as a new member.
Tonight’s final show also saw performances from the finalists, Rihanna, One Direction and Emeli Sande.
The X Factor UK returns next year, with open auditions for the 2013 series starting in the Spring.
