X Factor winner James Arthur is now the holder of the best selling winner's single ever.
This week saw James' sales of Impossible eclipse those of Alexandra Burke and Shayne Ward.
The Official Charts Company reported last month that the song has already eclipsed the total sales of Leona Lewis’ A Moment Like This, Joe McElderry’s The Climb, One Direction’s What Makes You Beautiful, JLS’ Beat Again, Little Mix’s Cannonball, Matt Cardle’s When We Collide and Olly Murs’ Please Don’t Let Me Go.
The song was then quickly catching up with the remaining winner’s singles and has now overtaken them to set a huge total of over 1.3 million copies being sold.
The numbers are top to Alexandra Burke’s Hallelujah (1.2 million) and Shayne Ward’s That’s My Goal (1.1 million).
The song had shifted over a million copies in just a month, earning it a BRIT nomination in the Best British Single category.
“Hitting the million mark in around a month is a fantastic achievement for James Arthur. X Factor winners often score strong first week sales, but to push through to the million mark so quickly is truly impressive,” Martin Talbot, the Official Charts Company’s Managing Director said in a statement at the time..
James’ track will be going up against the likes of Adele with Skyfall, Emeli Sande with Next To Me and Jessie J’s Domino at the BRITs later this month.
